Act 1



1 - Melée Island



Elaines orders

When you come to the shore there is no Welcome Party. No people. Nothing.
The only one who greets you is Timmy, the monkey, who seems having something on his mind. But what?
Well, someone is tearing down the Gubernatorial Mansion. He insists that the governor is dead and the mansion is to be demolished.

Elaine tries to tell him she is very
much alive but he won't listen and goes on throwing stones.

Elaine is very annoyed and is going to look into the matter.
She orders you to accomplish to matters.
1 Stop the demolition.
2 Go to Lucre Island to see her lawyers and claim her grandfathers heritage.

Elaine walks away to try to get un-dead. Regarding her bad temper you think it's better try to do what she wants to be done.


Stop the demolition

Talk to the Catapult Operator. You'll learn that he uses the cactus up at the house to calibrate his canon, but only if there is something wrong with it. This gives you an idea.
You could place something elastic around the cactus, something that catches the stone and throws it back. First you have to tinker with the catapult but the man won't let you near it. You must lure him away. Talk to him until he mentions that he is allowed to have snack pauses but he has no snacks. So you need to get some snacks and something elastic, Follow the path and exit the screen to the right. Cross the town and exit to the right.


On the next screen go to Scumm Bar and enter
In a corner at the back you see a drunken sailor. On his table there is a bowl of snacks. Try to take it. The man won't let you. Look at the balloon. If you could make it pop perhaps you could scare the old man to leave.




Talk to the dart players near the door. Talk to them until you can bet them that they can't hit the balloon. Fortunately they do. The man gets scared and passes out.
Go to the table. Look at the bowl of snacks and take it. Press P again to put it into your inventory. Exit the bar and go to the right of it to reach the map. Go to the harbor.





At the grog machine you'll find a popped inner tube. Look at it and then press P twice to pick it up and put it away.

Return to the map. This time choose to go to the Governor's Mansion.




Go to the cactus and put the tube over it.

Then go to the operator and offer him the snacks. He takes a break and goes away to eat them.

He will not be gone for long so you have to hurry,




Go to the catapult and tinker with it. The operator comes back and notices that there is something wrong with the aiming. He has to calibrate the canon. Hi aims towards the cactus and shoots the stone. The tube catches the stone and sends it back in its own direction.




The stone hits the catapult and throws it over the cliff where it explodes.
The Mansion is saved.
Elaine comes back. She is still dead and there is to be a new election.
While they are talking the new candidate, Mr. Charles L.Charles, appears.



He is determined to win the election. This doesn't suit Elaine. She decides to stay in Melée Town and fight Charles.
You have to go alone to Lucre Island, talk to the lawyers and reclaim the heritage.

Elaine hurries away and you realize you have a lot to do.





Get a ship and a crew


To go to Lucre Island you need a boat and a crew. At the Scumm Bar there is always someone you can talk to. Go there and talk to the bartender.
To get a ship you have to talk to the Harbor-mistress. (Stan who was there earlier has emigrated to Blood Island. You met him there in the last game, remember.)
Ask the bartender if he wants to come. He'd liked to but the boss says NO. The bartender advises you to ask the guests.

The Dart-players don't have time. They are going on a competition tour.




Talk to the man at the back table. He is I Cheese and turns out to be the owner of the bar.
Ask him if he wants to join your crew. At first he refuses. Keep on talking to him until you can talk about arm wrestling. Then ask again if he wants to join your crew. Now you can challenge him to an Insult Arm Wrestling.
It's the usual type of insults and answers. Keep on playing until you learn the answers. Have you played a Monkey Island game before you know how to do. When you win Cheese agrees to be your navigator.
Here are some correct answers if you get problems.



No more luck at the bar. Go to the Harbor and talk to the Harbor-Mistress. She is not very cooperative. Continue talking
to her until she tells you to get something official to back your request.

Go back to town. Talk to the two persons standing there. They are old acquaintances from the first Monkey Island game. Carla the Sword Master. You got her T-shirt, remember. And Otis, you helped him to get out of prison. Then they became your first crew. It was not very lucky, though. Now they are not interested. They only want a »cushy« government job.

Carla and Otis tell you the same story that you have heard from other people here in town. An Australian is buying the whole town. He challenges people to fight him in insult-duels and here in Melée everyone believes himself to be invincible so they bet their houses and land and loses. This man has so many insult they never heard before and it is seems impossible to beat him. You haven't been able to learn his name.

Maybe Elaine can help you with your othr poblems. She might have something official left. Return to the Mansion and talk to Elaine about your troubles.


She gives you her Symbol of Authority.

There is a paper at the table.
Look at it. It is a job-contract. Maybe it can suit Otis and Carla. Give the contract to Elaine and she will sign it.
Go to town and give the contract to Otis and Carla. It does not suit them. It is a standard job and they want a »cushy« job.

Return to Elaine. Explore the room further. On a bureau at the back you can find another job contract. Look at it. It says »cushy«. Give it to Elaine to sign.







Give the contract to Otis and Carla. Now they accept to be your crew.

Go to the harbor and give her the Symbol of Authority.
She accepts it and you can have your boat.
The crew joins you and you can all depart for Lucre Island.

Act 1



2 - Lucre Island



Meet the lawyers

After going here and there you eventually get to Lucre Island.

Cross the open area and go to the house at top right of the screen.




Behind the house you can see the sign of the Law Office.

Go around the house and you'll see two men playing chess in front of some stairs.

Walk up the stairs and you'll see the Law Office.

Go to the door and enter.




Talk to the lawyers. They talk a lot.

Eventually they show you a letter from Elaine's grandfather.

Pick up the letter and look at it.
Elaine's grandfather has a deposit box at Lucre Bank. There he has put the Deed to the Mansion, a wedding gift for Elaine and a terrible secret »The Ultimate Insult.«
Talk to the lawyers again and tell them about the deed. They tell you to get it and then return to them.
Next stop Lucre Bank.



The Bank Robbery


Enter the bank. It's the house to the left of the Law Office.
Talk to the girl, Brittany. Tell her you want to retrieve things from a deposit box.
When she sees the letter she asks you to show that you are representing Elaine. She accepts Elaine's medal as proof.
You are taken to the vault.




You have just started examining the box when you hear a strange conversation. The bankman seams to believe you are out there with him and tells you to return to the vault. In rushes a person disguised to look like you. He says he is Guybrysh Treepwood and points a pistol at you. You tell him he can't be you, because you are much better looking and don't smell as badly.




He gets angry and withdraws the mask for a moment and you notice his funny nose or rather his no- nose.

Then he grabs the box and runs out smashing the door locked.

You are trapped in the vault.




The thief dropped his badly smelling hanky. Pick it up. Also pick up the three sponges and the sword.

Go to the deposit box and look inside. Take the music box and the bottle of Grog, the pirates favorite drink.




Go to the vault door. Use the sword with the lower hinges. The hinges break but so does the sword. Use the broken sword with the crack.

Then use all the three sponges with the crack and pour the grog over it all.




The door breaks lose and you are free.
But not for long. You are arrested and put into jail. Everybody swears that it was you who robbed the bank. After a couple of hours you are set free but you are still under suspect and have to wear a voodoo foot link. You are not allowed to leave the Island.




Talk to Inspector Canard. To be free you must do three things.

1. You must find the real culprit.

2. You must return what was stolen.

3. You must bring the real culprit to justice.

Before you start the hunting go to the man kept behind bars and talk to him.

It's Otis and he is accused of stealing flowers. He won't be free before you.

Act - 1



3 - Chasing the bank robber

Who is he?

The only thing you know is that he has a funny nose or rather a no-nose and that he smelled badly. The inspector mentioned the name Pegnose-Pete but he also said the robbery didn't seem to be his kind of work. One thing, though, you have his hanky.




Enter the house to the left of the bank. It is The Palace Of Prostheses. Go to the counter and talk to the blind man Dave.

Ask if he knows someone without a nose. He knows plenty. Having no nose evidently is very common among pirates. He also says he can recognize a person from the smell of him. Show him the hanky.


He tells you he has got a cold and that you have to strengthen the different smells on the hanky before he can tell you who owns it.

Exit the shop and use the hanky several times. Each time you get a new smell. Continue until you have them all.

Hickory smoked fish.
Flowers growing in a cesspool.
Fish snot.
Corpse floating in a bog.
Somebody wiped his armpits on it.
A nice smell.
You must try to find these smells concentrated and combine them to make Dave recognize them. Then he might tell you who the thief is.
Go to the shop area.


Talk to the perfume dealer. He says he saw you running along towards the swamp carrying a lot of loot.
Take a bottle of Cologne from the table
Then pick up one of the empty spritzer bottles laying on the ground.


Go to the House of Sticks. As soon as you have entered an angry man comes into the shop. It's Mr. Mandrill. You saw him earlier at the bank. From what the dealer says you can tell he is none of his favorite customers.




Talk to Freddie. He things the thief is Pegnose Pete. You learn that a duck has chewed Pete's nose away.
Look around in the shop. There are some wood shavings on the floor. Pick it up. Then leave the shop.




Return to the lawyers office. To the left of it a portal leads out of town.
Go to the portal and you'll come to the map.
Go to the scary house at the left.


In front of the fountain there is a blower. Pick it.
Open the inventory and turn it to the empty spritzer bottle. Press U and turn to the wood shavings. Press U to combine the two items.
Then turn to the bottle again and combine it with he flower.




Return to the map and go to Lucre Town.
Enter the Bait Shoppe. Talk to the owner.
Go to the bait tank and take a free bait. Then use your spritzer bottle to get some water from the fish tank.





Leave the shop and go to the map. This time go to the swamp.
Go to the water and use your homemade perfume with the pod water.

Now your perfume is ready. It smells just like the hanky.




Return to town. Go to Dave and use the perfume on him.
Now the smell is strong and he can recognize it.

He gives you a name. It is a first name, a middle name initial and a last name. Remember the three initials. They differ each game. This time it was E, G and F.



Where does he live?


Dave doesn't know how the File retrieval System functions but he tells you to try to find out.
Click the sentence »Twiddle with File Retrieval System Controls«.
There are three wheels with five symbols each. Probably the symbols relate to special letters just as the numbers on telephones.
Try some of the symbols to see which letters you get. An easy way is to use the same symbol on each wheel. You move between the wheels and the button with left and right arrows and turn the wheels or press the button with Enter.
Each time you press the red button you get a document. Look at the name. Now you know some letters for that symbol. After some trial you surely know how their relationship. It's like this:

Bunny - A-B-C-D
Tree - E-F-G-H
Pumpkin - I-J-K-L-M
Monkey - N-O-P-Q-R-S
Banana - T-U-V-W-X-Y-Z




The name this time had the initials E-G-F.
It gives the combination three trees.
Have you done it correctly you shall have a document with the name Dave gave you. If you get another name, you have chosen the wrong symbols, or the perfume is not the right one.
If you automatically take the paper, it is the right one.




You'll get the document on the screen and can check that it is correct.
There are some directions but they are combined with times. You need a clock.
Enter the door opposite the law office and you'll se two pirates playing chess. They have a clock.
Try to take it. They won't let you. Talk to the portly player. Ask if you can play. The skinny player then tells you that the portly one can't concentrate on the game if you talk about food.
Tell the portly player you think his partner is very concentrated. You then learn about his weakness for Brittany, the girl at the bank.
Now choose one of the sentences about food. Keep on doing this until the portly player makes a false move. Then go to the skinny player and talk to him about Brittany until he makes a false move.
Now they start arguing and don't mind your taking the clock.




Remember what Freddie told you about Pete and the duck. There is a duck outside the Bait Shoppe. Go and get it.
Also go to the jail and pick up some chicken grease.
Now go to the swamp and start looking for Pegnose Pete.



Use the raft. Then use the clock with the raft and you get a certain time.
As soon as the time changes, change to the related direction. Go on like this until you come to a locked gate. It is a strange gate. You'll meet a »future version« of yourself.
He asks you to guess which number he is thinking about. Remember the number. It is different every game.




He gives you a key and some other items. Remember the order in which you get them.
Open the gate with the key and go through it. Continue using the raft and the clock the same way as before until you are back at this same gate. You meet yourself again but now you are the »future version«.
For the guessing game you must choose the same number he did last time . Then you must give him the items in exactly the same order as you received them earlier.
If you do something wrong you must start it all over again.




If everything is correct you continue with the raft and the clock as before until you come to a house.
You can hear some sounds from inside. Go to the window and listen. You recognize the voices. It is Pete and Ozzie. Ozzie is out to get »The Ultimate Insult« and has hired Pete to steal the heritage. It's now hidden in his secret cave.




Ozzie leaves but Pete remains inside.

Get the chicken grease and use it on the door mat.
Go to the window and throw the duck into the house.
Pete rushes out screaming but slips on the doormat and falls into his own trap.




In the next scene he is at the police station.
You hope to be freed but Canard won't let you go.
This was only one of the three things you have to do.
You have found a culprit but you must show he has been in the bank and you must also recover the stolen goods.

The Poll

Elaine is very worried. The Poll figures are very low. Charles figures are much better.
While they are talking Charles comes bragging into the room.




Suddenly he reveals his true self.
None other than LeChuck is posing as Charles.

When he is gone Elaine tells Guybrush to visit the Voodoo lady in the House of Mojo and ask her about the wedding presents.



Three of the gifts


Go to the town and enter the Mojo-House.

Look at the big hand. Look at the fingers until you get the line »Pull finger« marked. Then press Enter.




The Voodoo-Lady appears. Talk to her about everything.
You must find the different pieces to make the talisman for the Ultimate Insult. The recipe has been destroyed, but Grandpa Marley has said that the wedding presents will show how to do it. The chest is full of junk but the Voodoo-Lady finds three of the presents. Big wooden earrings, a necklace and a pen. The forth present is missing but she tells you it is blue.
She also tells you the pieces to the talisman is to be found on another island, she can't say which one.

But she knows that the blue present is somewhere on Melée Island. To learn more you must find the lady who owns the jewels.
She can't tell you more. You must now search for the forth present. The only thing you know is that it is blue.
You have heard that Meathook, your old friend from the first game, nowadays works with colors. Maybe he can tell you something.
Go to the map and to Meathook's house.

If you like you can ask him to show his tattoo.
You learn that Grandpa Marley once ordered a painting over the Tri-Island area as a wedding present for Elaine. Unfortunately Grandpa left and never claimed the painting.




Meathook used it for a wax painting and sold it. He can't remember who bought it.
He also tells you the wax melts if it is exposed to an open fire.
Take a paintbrush from the bucket and leave. Go to the harbour and look at the Grog Machine. There is a quarter in the change return slot. Take it.




Use the quarter with the machine. No result.
Kick, push, shake and yell at it.
Now you get a lot of grog. Take one.




Go to the bar. It's name is now Lua Bar. Look around. There is a painting.
You realize it is one of Meathook's wax paintings. You can't take it.

The food is brought to the guests with boats at the small canal. Under the canal is a strange mechanism..



If you could melt the wax you could see what is behind it.
Talk to the waitress and order something cooked. Choose the Flaming Fish.
After a little while it comes in the canal. Save the game.
Let the boat pass. Just before it comes near the painting, use the paintbrush with the mechanism to make the boats stop.
The chef comes rushing from the kitchen.


Hurry into the kitchen and use the grog with the steam generator.
If you have stopped the boat at exactly the right moment, the wax will melt and reveal the blue painting.
(This is a tricky part and you probably have to do it many times . Notice where the boat is when you use the brush and where it stops. Then you can decide how far before the painting you shall act. )

A living figurehead


Look at the painting. The talisman consists of three parts. A Bronze Hat, a Silver Head and a Golden Body. The parts can be found on one of the Islands, but which one? On the other side is a map of the three islands but none of them is marked.
Now you must find the woman who owns the jewels. The earrings are huge, it must be a very large woman.




Go to your boat and use the earrings on the figurehead. It will come to live.
Talk to her. She is not very nice.
Give her the necklace and the pen. Then give her the painting.




The pen starts glowing. It passes over the picture and marks the Jambalaya Island.
The pieces ought to be found on Jambalaya.
Before you depart, Elaine comes and reclaims her Gubernatorial Symbol.

Meathook used it for a wax painting and sold it. He can't remember who bought it.
He also tells you the wax melts if it is exposed to an open fire.
Take a paintbrush from the bucket and leave. Go to the harbour and look at the Grog Machine. There is a quarter in the change return slot. Take it.




Use the quarter with the machine. No result.
Kick, push, shake and yell at it.
Now you get a lot of grog. Take one.




Go to the bar. It's name is now Lua Bar. Look around. There is a painting.
You realize it is one of Meathook's wax paintings. You can't take it.

The food is brought to the guests with boats at the small canal. Under the canal is a strange mechanism..



If you could melt the wax you could see what is behind it.
Talk to the waitress and order something cooked. Choose the Flaming Fish.
After a little while it comes in the canal. Save the game.
Let the boat pass. Just before it comes near the painting, use the paintbrush with the mechanism to make the boats stop.
The chef comes rushing from the kitchen.


Hurry into the kitchen and use the grog with the steam generator.
If you have stopped the boat at exactly the right moment, the wax will melt and reveal the blue painting.
(This is a tricky part and you probably have to do it many times . Notice where the boat is when you use the brush and where it stops. Then you can decide how far before the painting you shall act. )

A living figurehead


Look at the painting. The talisman consists of three parts. A Bronze Hat, a Silver Head and a Golden Body. The parts can be found on one of the Islands, but which one? On the other side is a map of the three islands but none of them is marked.
Now you must find the woman who owns the jewels. The earrings are huge, it must be a very large woman.




Go to your boat and use the earrings on the figurehead. It will come to live.
Talk to her. She is not very nice.
Give her the necklace and the pen. Then give her the painting.




The pen starts glowing. It passes over the picture and marks the Jambalaya Island.
The pieces ought to be found on Jambalaya.
Before you depart, Elaine comes and reclaims her Gubernatorial Symbol.

Act 2

1 - Guybrush finds the Wedding Presents

The Poll

Elaine is very worried. The Poll figures are very low. Charles figures are much better.
While they are talking Charles comes bragging into the room.




Suddenly he reveals his true self.
None other than LeChuck is posing as Charles.

When he is gone Elaine tells Guybrush to visit the Voodoo lady in the House of Mojo and ask her about the wedding presents.

Go to the town and enter the Mojo-House.

Look at the big hand. Look at the fingers until you get the line »Pull finger« marked. Then press Enter.

Act 3

3- Guybrush learns the Old Monkey Language.

Monkey Combat

It is a special game. There are five different stands named Anxious Ape (AA), Bobbing Baboon (BB), Charging Chimp (CC), Drunken Monkey (DM) and Gimpy Gibbon (GG). Every stand defeats two of the others.

The two combatants start with the same stand. Then one of them changes to a new stand. The point is then to choose a stand that defeats the opponent's. The one who wins the move takes a new stand and the whole thing continues until one has won the game.

To get from one stand to another you must use an insult consisting of three of the four words in the original monkey language, Ack, Eek, Chee and Oop.

Jojo shows you the different stands and gives you an example of one stand that defeats another and the insult that leads between those two stands.

These insults are different every new game.

When the two opponents have the same stand it's called a »Draw«. By effecting a draw you might learn a new insult. You can effect a draw by using the same insult your opponent just gave.

If you say a word three times for instance Eek, Eek. Eek, you keep your stand.

By combating a lot of times you can learn the insults you need to defeat Jojo.

Make a table and write everything down. As long as you are in the same game the insults are the same.
The insults works in both directions so you only have to learn ten different.

After every move you can, at the screen, see the two stands, which insult is used between them and which is the winning stand. The pictures are only examples.



Meet Jojo


When the Brawny Monkey is defeated Guybrush says he is ready to meat Jojo. If you have all the ten insults it is not difficult.




When you have won, he gives you his Bronze Hat.
Now you are ready to leave Monkey Island.
Remember Grandpa Marley told you to put the bronze hat on the big monkey.



The big monkey


Go to the map and then to the big monkey.

Look at the head and use the hat with the head.

Then get your banana picker and use it with the big monkey's nose.

The mouth opens. Enter.




You are in a big room. Look around. Look for a big slot. When you find it use your Gubernatorial Symbol with it.




Things happen.
The monkeys gather.
Grandpa and Jojo come and together you start the machine.




It is a giant monkey-robot and it starts walking all the way to Melée Island.

Time to confront the scoundrels.

Act 3

4 - Guybrush fights the Ultimate Battle.

The big tower

You come to a small island, where three towers are built.
On the tallest tower there is an amplifier which shall yell the Ultimate Insult to all inhabitants and force them to surrender.
You must get the monkey-robot up on the tallest tower and switch the power off.
Let the robot pick up the big plank.




Let him use the plank with the small tower, creating a spring board, then let him climb the tower.




Let him jump on the springboard onto the tallest tower.

Then let him pull the lever.

In the Mansion LeChuck and Ozzie have constructed the talisman and LeChuck has been out trying it but it doesn't work. He is furious.
Elaine tells them her Grandpa naturally haven't told them everything. Pete makes her tumble against the table.



The Governors Mansion



She drops her Gubernatorial Symbol and Ozzie gets hold of it. He puts it in the talisman and it is activated.
The first one to experience it is Pete. Immediately he is turned into a stammering nitwit.




Ozzie goes to the amplifier and sends the Ultimate Insult.
It flops, the amplifier has been turned off.
LeChuck finds he must do everything himself and rushes out to the giant statue he has ordered to be built.




At this moment Guybrush returns to the Mansion,
Ozzie is just going to use the talisman against him when the ground starts to shake,
Ozzie gets distracted and Guybrush and Elaine can escape. Ozzie follows them.



The Battle of the Giants


LeChuck has used Voodoo and entered the statue. He quickly picks up both Elaine and Ozzie one in each gigantic hand.




Ozzie uses the talisman on LeChuck and takes command. He tells LeChuck to kill Guybrush.
Guybrush has succeeded in climbing the monkey-robot and is steering it towards the statue.

The ultimate battle is about to begin.




You have no chance to win. If you use the same tactics as against Jojo the battle will continue in eternity. Your only chance is to effectuate a draw.
Do this three times and the statue starts to break down.
His hand slackens and Elaine can escape.




The battle is now between LeChuck and Ozzie. Nobody wins. Instead they eliminate each other and everything goes up in smoke.


Everybody comes out and rejoice.
Elaine and Guybrush persuade Grandpa Marley to be Governor again and let them go back to their sweet pirate life.

Jojo takes farewell and returns to Monkey Island with the robot and everything looks like a happy ending.




As usual it doesn't take long until Guybrush annoys Elaine and she leaves him.
At the same time Timmy pushes Guybrush from the cliff and if nobody helps him up, he probably has to stay there until next game.
